Paint protection film (PPF) is a virtually invisible thermoplastic urethane film applied to your vehicle's most vulnerable surfaces. At The Mad Tinter, we're certified XPEL installers serving Waterville, Augusta, Bangor, Ellsworth, and all of central Maine.

What is paint protection film, and how is it different from a ceramic coating?
Paint protection film (PPF, sometimes called clear bra) is a thick, clear urethane film applied over the paint. It physically absorbs rock chips, gravel and scratches. A ceramic coating is a thin liquid layer that adds gloss, hydrophobic behaviour and chemical resistance but does not stop chips. Many customers combine the two.
Does XPEL paint protection film really self-heal?
Yes. Light scratches and swirls in the top coat of XPEL film disappear with heat from the sun, a warm garage or warm water. Deeper impacts that would have chipped the paint are absorbed by the film instead.
Which coverage should I choose: partial front, full front or full body?
Partial front (partial hood, fenders, mirrors and bumper) suits daily drivers. Full front adds the whole hood and fenders, headlights and A-pillars, and is the most popular choice for highway commuters. Full body covers every painted panel and is what luxury, exotic and show cars usually get. We will walk you through the options at your consultation.
Can you see the film once it is on the car?
No. XPEL film is optically clear, and we computer-cut every piece to your exact year, make and model so edges are wrapped or tucked wherever possible. Stain resistance keeps it from yellowing over time.

How long does PPF last, and how do I care for it?
